Founded during the French Revolution, the mission of the École Normale Supérieure was to train the teachers and elites of the Republic. In the early 20th century, it became the hub of French intellectual and scientific life. All the great philosophical and political debates were held there, and great figures of committed intellectuals sprang from its ranks. Today, while the E.N.S. continues to play a central role in the training of the French elite, this tradition of crucial commitment remains at the heart of its identity.
