Zap, sits-in, die-in, flyers, parades… In the early 1990s, ACT UP Paris activists multiply actions to fight general indifference against the AIDS epidemy. The spectacular nature of those protests continues to inspire new generations of activists. This documentary paints a picture of this transformative era by going back over the artistic inspirations and visionary approach of “120 beats per minute”, which won the Grand Prix at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and six César awards. This 46th opus of the collection « A film and its era » shows how “120 beats per minute” blends lyrical fiction and autobiographical elements and how Act Up was a personal experience for Robin Campillo that inspired him to become a filmmaker.
