Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, “The Square”, Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s fourth feature film, is a fierce satire of the contemporary art world. By questioning the creative process of a director who is a sociology aficionado, this documentary shows how “The Square” also criticizes contemporary Sweden: this cradle of Scandinavian social democracy is today being plagued by the rise of individualism, the increase in inequalities and the emergence of mendicancy.
