Released in 1987, Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street” delves into the heart of American finance at the time of the deregulation that was promoted by President Reagan. It was the golden age, a time of speculation and unconditional greed for the golden boys embodied by Gordon Gekko (played by Michael Douglas), a character inspired by the kings of the stock market at the time. Rémi Lainé explores the intimate reasons that led Oliver Stone to direct Wall Street and his quasi-ethnological vocation. This documentary film also shows how Donald Trump uses the iconic “Greed is good” formula from the film. Wall Street testifies thus to a disturbing topicality.
