Once upon a time… Mommy tells the story of the making of this film, which received a standing ovation at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. It was awarded the Jury Prize in a tie with Jean-Luc Godard, attesting to the dazzling talent of a young Montreal director, Xavier Dolan, the orchestrator of all his films. A single mother reunites with her teenage son who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Together, they form an explosive duo to which a neighbour, traumatized by the loss of a child, joins them. The film features mothers in heroic situations. Before everything turns sour. Xavier Dolan is a Generation Y artist, immersed in TV series, blockbusters, video, photography and the Internet. He embodies Quebec’s counter-culture in the heart of the North American continent, which the director describes as “a feminist society”.
